Scanning – Transforming 30,000 Historical Mining Records into a Searchable Digital Archive

A project located in a long-established mining district had accumulated 135 containers holding approximately 30,000 paper documents and maps—none of which were digitized.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the client prepared for a resource update, their technical team needed to verify and validate historical data including drill logs, assay results, and plan maps/cross-sections. However, the paper-based format made the information difficult to access and search efficiently.

THE CHALLENGE

Using Orix’s proprietary scanning software, O-Scan, and the expertise of our dedicated scanning and data specialists, all 30,000 documents were digitized, indexed, and enriched with metadata at our Sudbury Scanning Facility.

THE ORIX SOLUTION

A fully digital, standardized, and searchable dataset—allowing the client’s team to quickly locate and validate historical data, supporting a more informed and confident resource evaluation.

THE RESULT

Storage unit filled with packed boxes, rolls of paper, and various stored materials, with metal framing walls.
